Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi said women and children in West Bengal would benefit as various Central government schemes are now being implemented uniformly across the state. She held a review meeting in Kolkata today on the progress of various schemes and programmes of the Ministry in the state. Answering questions from journalists afterwards, she thanked the Chief Minister and said that the Central government stands by the state in every possible way.
She also said that September is observed as Poshan Maah, during which various programmes will be organised to raise awareness among women in rural areas. In response to a question, the Minister said that the Prime Minister is committed to women’s empowerment and assured that the West Bengal government would receive all possible support from the Centre for the welfare and development of women in the state.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State Savitri Thakur, West Bengal Women and Child Development Minister Malti Rava Roy, and senior officials of the Central and state governments.
Annapurna Devi will attend a meeting of the Ministry’s Consultative Committee tomorrow.
