Union Health Minister JP Nadda highlights strengthening of national security & defence self-reliance over past 12 years

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has placed national security and self-reliance at the core of its development journey over the past 12 years. In a social media post, Mr Nadda said the country’s defence sector has witnessed a remarkable transformation through enhanced military preparedness and a strong emphasis on indigenous manufacturing.

He noted that the defence budget has nearly tripled to around eight lakh crore rupees, while self-reliance in ammunition production has increased from 32 per cent to nearly 90 per cent.

The Minister added that defence production has crossed 1.5 lakh crore rupees, reflecting the growing strength of the domestic defence industry. Mr Nadda also highlighted the expansion of strategic infrastructure, stating that more than 6 thousand 800 kilometres of roads have been constructed by the Border Roads Organisation to improve connectivity in border areas. He said defence exports have also reached record new heights by crossing 38 thousand crore rupees.

Referring to India’s security policy, the Minister said the government’s zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism has been demonstrated through decisive actions such as the Surgical Strikes and the Balakot Air Strike.

He said these measures have sent a clear message that the nation’s security and sovereignty are non-negotiable. Mr Nadda added that the modernisation of the armed forces, strengthening of border infrastructure, and increased focus on cyber and maritime security have further enhanced India’s defence capabilities. He said these efforts are contributing to the creation of a stronger, safer and more self-reliant India.
