The Union Cabinet today approved seven high-density railway networks for four laning. These include projects from Delhi to Mumbai, Mumbai to Chennai, Chennai to Kolkata and Kolkata to Delhi. Briefing media after the Cabinet meeting in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the seven corridors carry about 40 percent of traffic of railways and four laning of about two thousand kilometres has already been completed.
The Cabinet also approved three multitracking railway projects with a total cost of more than ten thousand seven hundred crore rupees. These projects are Kharagpur to Jharsuguda fourth Line, Katni to Pendra Road fourth Line and Bilaspur to Pendra Road third Line. The increased line capacity will significantly enhance mobility, resulting in improved operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. These multi-tracking proposals are poised to streamline operations and alleviate congestion.
