Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today reviewed the progress of Kharif sowing, monsoon conditions, fertiliser and seed availability, and the possible impact of El Niño. Chairing a review meeting in New Delhi, Mr Chouhan directed officials to closely monitor districts facing deficient rainfall and maintain regular coordination with state governments. He also asked officials to ensure timely availability of fertilisers to farmers and resolve any shortage in the distribution system without delay.
During the meeting, it was informed that the South-West Monsoon has covered the entire country, creating favourable conditions for Kharif sowing. As of the 17th of this month, Kharif crops have been sown across over 658 lakh hectares. The meeting also reviewed rainfall conditions, the situation in 270 rainfall-sensitive districts, water storage in reservoirs, and the availability of agricultural inputs. Mr Chouhan directed officials to continue weather-based monitoring and ensure effective implementation of contingency measures and government schemes in coordination with the states.
