The Country’s overall workforce participation rate (WPR) for age 15 years and above increased to 52.8 per cent in August, the highest level recorded since March, 2026. According to the monthly labour force and unemployment data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, rural WPR increased by 1.3 per cent to 55.8 per cent, whereas the urban WPR declined half a per cent to stood at 47 per cent in August.
The country’s unemployment rate for persons aged 15 years and above declined marginally to five per cent in August, compared with 5.1 per cent in July this year. According to the monthly labour force and unemployment data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the rural unemployment rate eased to 4.1 per cent in August, which is the lowest level since January this year. In contrast, the urban unemployment rate increased slightly to 6.8 per cent, marking a four-month high. Among females, the overall unemployment rate declined to 5.1 per cent, while the unemployment rate among males eased to 4.9 per cent in August.
The overall Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for age 15 years and above increased moderately to 55.6 per cent in August.
