Ukraine launches largest aerial attack on Russia’s oil infrastructure

Ukrainian forces launched one of their largest aerial assaults on Russia today, sending more than 1,000 drones across the country and setting an oil export terminal ablaze in St. Petersburg. Governor Alexander Beglov said one person was killed and five were injured in the attack, which sparked fires at both the Petersburg Oil Terminal and the city’s Ruchi oil depot.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said that its forces had destroyed 1,015 Ukrainian drones over 15 Russian regions, as well as the Russian-controlled Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea and the Black Sea. Russian forces launched two attacks on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, killing a woman and injuring at least two other people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s continued aerial strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, accusing Moscow of violating an energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump. In a social media post, Zelenskyy said Russia had carried out 76 attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy, oil and gas sectors in the week since Trump’s announcement, despite his call for both sides to halt such strikes.
