University Grants Commission has instructed all higher educational institutions to create awareness among the students about the availability of a toll-free mental health helpline. The commission, in a circular to all the vice-chancellors of universities and principles of all colleges, noted that Health Ministry’s Tele-MANAS mental health helpline has performed commendably well since its launch and it further needs to be popularised amongst the masses. The commission requested the higher educational institutions to widely publicise the Tele MANAS helpline, stating that it is free of cost and available 24×7.
The Tele Mental Health Assurance and Networking (Tele MANAS) initiative was launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on World Mental Health Day in 2022. This initiative aims to provide round-the-clock support and assistance to those struggling with mental health issues.
