The United Arab Emirates is witnessing a growing wave of yoga activities ahead of International Day of Yoga 2026, reflecting the practice’s transformation into a nationwide wellness movement across all emirates.
Over the years, yoga in the UAE has steadily moved beyond informal group sessions to become part of structured wellness initiatives in schools, workplaces and public institutions. This year’s countdown activities reflect the growing popularity of yoga, drawing participation from diverse communities and underscoring its role in promoting physical health, mental well-being and a balanced lifestyle.
In Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the Indian Embassy and Consulate General, in collaboration with community organisations and educational institutions, have expanded yoga outreach across different age groups. Organisations including the Indian People’s Forum, Friends of India and the Arab Region Yoga Instructors Council have organised large-scale sessions in schools, public spaces and community centres to promote wellness and community engagement.
Community yoga programmes in Dubai, including sessions at public venues and workplace wellness initiatives, have encouraged wider participation. Similar activities in Sharjah and Ajman have drawn families, youth groups and cultural organisations, while schools in Abu Dhabi have conducted guided sessions focusing on mindfulness, flexibility and stress management.
The growing participation across generations reflects yoga’s increasing role in promoting physical health, mental well-being and balanced lifestyles in the UAE ahead of International Day of Yoga 2026.
