UAE announces final 30-day grace period for individuals exempted from overstay fines

The United Arab Emirates’ Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, ICP, has announced a final 30-day grace period for individuals previously exempted from overstay fines due to exceptional regional circumstances that disrupted travel earlier this year. The grace period began on June 10 and will continue until July 9. During this period, eligible individuals can either regularise their residency status in the UAE or leave the country as per applicable procedures.

The ICP said the measure is aimed at ensuring compliance with UAE laws while providing affected individuals a final opportunity to regularise their status or exit the country legally, as normal travel operations have now resumed.

The Authority had earlier, in March this year, exempted overstay fines for individuals who were unable to leave due to airspace closures and flight suspensions that began on February 28. The exemption covered visa holders, departure permit holders, and residents whose permits had been cancelled but who were unable to travel due to circumstances beyond their control.

The ICP stated that the exceptional conditions no longer exist, and this grace period is the final opportunity for affected individuals to regularise their stay or depart. It also clarified that no additional procedures are required to avail of the benefit.

The Authority has urged all concerned individuals to follow official ICP communication channels for further updates and guidance.
