Two Singapore-registered container ships, GFS PRIDE and GFS GISELLE, were struck by unknown projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore reported that the GFS PRIDE caught fire and sank, but all 21 crew members evacuated safely without injury. The GFS GISELLE sustained hull damage but reached a safe anchorage under its own propulsion. Its 22 crew members were also safe and uninjured. No Singaporeans were aboard either vessel. The authority condemned the incidents, expressing deep concern over ongoing attacks on commercial shipping in the region.
Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy commander Ali Azmaei announced that the IRGC Navy and the Iranian Army’s Navy maintain round-the-clock control over the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman. The IRGC Navy commander stated that passing vessels must secure authorization under international regulations and warned of a decisive response against any ships violating the rules due to U.S. provocation.
