Five people lost their lives after a commercial building collapsed near Saket Metro Station in South Delhi last evening. According to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a total of 13 victims were brought to the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre for treatment. Of them, five were declared brought dead on arrival. Five people are undergoing treatment at the hospital, while three have been discharged after receiving treatment. 

 

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, today visited the incident site in South Delhi and reviewed the ongoing relief and rescue operations. In a social media post, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) informed that rescue teams have been continuously engaged in operations since last night.

 

It noted that on the instructions of the Chief Minister, prompt action was taken, and a criminal case has been registered at Mehrauli Police Station, and a magisterial inquiry has been ordered, which will be headed by the District Magistrate, South District. The CMO also said that officials have been directed to inspect dilapidated and hazardous buildings in the vicinity and to take strict action wherever necessary.
