Two-day National Workshop on Seafood Exports begins in Visakhapatnam today

A two-day National Workshop on Seafood Exports will begin in Visakhapatnam today to discuss ways to increase India’s seafood exports and strengthen the sector across the country. The workshop is being organised by the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, with support from the Andhra Pradesh Government.
 
Senior officials from the Central Government, States and Union Territories, along with exporters, industry representatives, start-ups and MSMEs, will take part in the event. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan are expected to attend the inaugural session.
 
The workshop will focus on improving seafood exports through better infrastructure, value addition, certification, traceability and policy support. Discussions will also be held on increasing the participation of start-ups and small businesses in the export sector.
 
The programme includes interactions with stakeholders, presentations by various Central ministries and technical sessions on strengthening the seafood export value chain.
The workshop is expected to help prepare a roadmap for achieving the country’s target of one lakh crore rupees in seafood exports and further strengthen India’s position in global seafood markets.
