The State Election Commission today announced the schedule for elections to the Village Committees of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat, State Election Commissioner Pradip Chakraborty said the formal election notification will be issued tomorrow, September 1, with the filing of nominations beginning the same day. The last date for filing nominations is September 8, scrutiny will take place on September 9, and nominations can be withdrawn until September 11. Polling will be held on September 28 from 7 am to 4 pm. If repolling is required, it will be conducted on October 3, while counting will take place on October 5 from 8 am. The election process will conclude by October 8.
Elections will be held in 587 Village Committees covering 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats across 52 of the state’s 58 blocks. A total of 961,977 voters, including 4,82,041 men, 4,79,930 women and six third-gender voters, are eligible to vote. There will be 1,550 polling stations. The Commissioner said the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in the Village Committee areas from today. Voting will be conducted through ballot papers. The last Village Committee elections were held in 2016. The tenure of the elected committees ended on March 8, 2021, but elections could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent legal complications. DGP G.S. Rao said adequate security arrangements are being made for peaceful polling.
