The 207th birth anniversary of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar is being observed across Tripura with various programmes, along with the rest of the country.
Addressing a tribute programme in Agartala today, organized by the Directorate of School Education and the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha described Vidyasagar as a pioneer, social reformer and beacon of humanity. He highlighted his outstanding contributions to the spread of education, women’s education, widow remarriage and the eradication of social superstitions.
Dr Saha said the government’s goal is to build a just, educated and progressive society inspired by Vidyasagar’s humanist ideas and ideals of education and social reform. He said the state government is committed to providing quality education and has allocated substantial funds for improving school infrastructure, constructing classrooms and upgrading facilities across all eight districts.
He also highlighted initiatives such as smart classrooms, free Wi-Fi in government degree colleges and DTH channels, while stressing the implementation of NEP 2020 and efforts to address teacher shortages and improve the student-teacher ratio.
