Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu has described senior citizens as a valuable asset to the nation and stressed the need to create opportunities for society to benefit from their knowledge and experience.
The Governor made these remarks while visiting the Ashray Pensioners’ Home at Kunjaban in Agartala today, where he interacted with the elderly residents and listened to their concerns.
Expressing concern over the rising incidents of cyber fraud targeting senior citizens, the Governor said fraudsters often intimidate and deceive elderly people through various means. He emphasised the need to create greater awareness among senior citizens to protect them from such scams.
The Governor also encouraged the residents to document and write about their life experiences so that future generations can benefit from their wisdom and insights.
Special Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, Tapan Kumar Das, who was present during the visit, informed that the Ashray Pensioners’ Home accommodates retired employees of the State Government, Agartala Municipal Corporation and government-acquired organisations. He said the facility currently houses 43 residents, each paying a monthly fee of 3,300 rupees. A dedicated society has been constituted to oversee the care and welfare of the residents.
