Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today laid the foundation stone for the Agartala Government Eye Hospital at Capital Complex, describing the initiative as a milestone in the state’s eye-care sector.
Speaking at the programme, the Chief Minister said healthcare services in Tripura have improved significantly, resulting in an 80 per cent reduction in referrals outside the state. He said infrastructure and medical services at sub-divisional hospitals are being upgraded to reduce referrals to district hospitals.
The new eye hospital, equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced facilities, has been directed to be completed within two years. Dr. Saha expressed hope that it would emerge as one of the leading eye-care institutions in the Northeast.
The Chief Minister said modern technology is being introduced in the state’s healthcare system, while patients’ medical records are also being digitised. He added that 80 per cent of the state’s population has been covered under ABHA cards, placing Tripura among the better-performing states in the country.
He further announced that 100 more beds will be added to GB Hospital, while approval has also been given to increase bed capacity at Gomati District Hospital.
Dr. Saha also said that around 90 per cent of children in the state have achieved vaccination coverage, contributing to better health outcomes.
