Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand reach quarterfinals of BWF World Championships in New Delhi

In badminton, India’s women’s doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand has stormed into the quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships in New Delhi. The Indian pair produced a commanding performance to defeat seventh seeds Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi of Japan in straight games, 21-16, 21-12.
 
Talking to media, Gayatri and Treesa said they were able to understand the gameplan within the first two to three points. The duo added that they were attacking in the latter half of the opening game and carried it into the second game, which ultimately worked in their favour.
 
Top Indian shuttlers, including former world champion P V Sindhu, will be in action in the pre-quarterfinals later today. Ninth seeded Sindhu will take on third seed Wang Zhi Yi of China in the women’s singles. While in men’s singles, young sensation Ayush Shetty will lock horns with 11th seed Alwi Farhan of Indonesia.
 
In the men’s doubles, fifth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will face Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap of Malaysia in the Round of 16. Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, the Indian pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will take on China’s Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui.
