TRAI directs telecom operators and ISPs to establish 24-hour complaint centres

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed telecom operators and internet service providers (ISPs) to establish 24-hour complaint centres that can be managed by AI agents. Under the amended telecom consumer complaint redressal rules released yesterday, TRAI has also introduced penalties of up to 20 lakh rupees per quarter per service area for improper handling or disposal of consumer complaints and disputes. The regulator said the amended rules would be published in the official gazette. Additionally, telecom operators and ISPs will be required to submit quarterly performance reports.
