Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has highlighted India’s ancient tradition of travelling to seek knowledge and new opportunities. Citing the ancient saying of Charaiveti, he said the country’s sages had long spoken of travel as a path to learning and growth.

 

The Minister said this while speaking at the Iconic Tourism Summit organised by a private media in New Delhi today. Mr Shekhawat said that in the past 12 years, the country has seen a remarkable transformation in roads, airports, railways, shipping, waterways or communication, which is significant in seamless travel. Talking about the behavioural shift in tourism, the minister said that people have started prioritising experiential tourism in place of slow monumental tourism.

 

The Minister also highlighted India’s record growth in the first quarter of this financial year. He said that while the world was facing supply-chain disruptions, political turbulence and an energy crisis, India recorded more than seven and a half per cent growth in the first quarter. He also highlighted the concerns over the impact of Artificial Intelligence and quantum computing on the services and technology sectors. The Minister said that India continued to register growth in services, manufacturing and exports despite the challenging global environment.
