Trinamool Congress’ Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has announced his resignation today. Mr. Roy has stepped down not only from the Upper House but also from the primary membership of the Trinamool Congress.
In a press note, Mr. Roy accused the Trinamool Congress of rampant corruption, extreme violence against women, and failures across education, health, industry, employment, and law and order. He pointed to the recently held West Bengal assembly elections, where he said the electorate expressed a clear vote of no-confidence in the party that has ruled the state for 15 years. For the first time in Bengal’s history, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a large number of seats.
Mr. Roy added that the newly elected government has already begun implementing programs aimed at development and reconstruction, in line with its election promises.
