The third National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Heads of States and Union Territories concluded in New Delhi yesterday. The two-day conference was organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau under the theme United Resolve, Shared Responsibility.
It was inaugurated by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. Addressing the inaugural session, Mr Shah called for a decisive fight against narcotics and expressed confidence that the collective goal of uprooting the drug trade from India by 31st December 2029.
The Narcotics Control Bureau said that the conference brought together ANTF Heads from 36 States and Union Territories and officials from various government departments. It said that all States and Union Territories reaffirmed their commitment to implement the National Vision Document on Narcotics Control for 2026 to 2029.
NCB said that officials stressed the need to move from a seizure-centric to a network-centric approach. It said that they discussed strengthening enforcement against drug trafficking networks, demand reduction, prevention and rehabilitation during the conference.
In his valedictory address, Director General of NCB urged ANTFs to work with full commitment and prepare three-year State-level roadmaps aligned with the National Vision Document. He reiterated the need for enforcement and intelligence agencies to strengthen information-sharing and coordination to detect, dismantle and destroy transnational, inter-State and intra-State drug networks.
