The Telangana state government has asked the district authorities to remain alert and vigilant in the wake of heavy rains in many places across the state. Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari has directed district officials to ensure that there is no loss of human life due to the heavy rains.
Heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana, especially in the southern region of the state since yesterday, under the influence of the depression formed in the Bay of Bengal. State Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, while reviewing the situation with district collectors, has asked them to deal effectively with any kind of sudden calamity. Stating that there is a possibility of a cloudburst in some areas, the Chief Secretary directed them to open control rooms in the state secretariat in Hyderabad as well as every district collector’s office besides at the headquarters of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. She asked them to keep proper surveillance so that people do not venture outside.
According to the government instructions, an officer will be placed to specially supervise each overflowing stream. District collectors can take the decision to declare a holiday for schools in view of the rains. The district officials also have been instructed to have an advance plan for evacuating people from flood-affected areas and setting up resettlement camps. Meanwhile, Yerrupalem in Khammam District recorded 18.2 cm of rainfall. Several places in Khammam and Kamareddy districts witnessed very heavy rainfall today. Meanwhile, Met officials warned that very heavy rain is likely at some places during the next 24 hours.
