Tamil Nadu to hold bypolls in Dharapuram and Madurantakam tomorrow

In Tamil Nadu, by-elections for the reserved constituencies of Dharapuram and Madurantakam will be held tomorrow. The district administration has declared a local holiday to enable voters to exercise their franchise. Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm at these constituencies. All arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and peaceful polling. This is the first by election after TVK  came to power in the state four months ago.

Out of the seven seats which are vacant, by polls will be held for two constituencies. The vacancy arose due to the resignation of two AIADMK MLAs Maragatham Kumaravel elected from Madurantakam and P.Sathyabama from Dharapuram. The duo later joined the TVK led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. TVK has fielded the same contestants in the fray.

It is a four cornered contest with TVK,DMK,AIADMK and CPI fielding their candidates. It is to be noted that the left parties are supporting the TVK led Government from the outside. A total of 27 contestants are in the fray for the by poll at Madurantakam and a total of 30 contestants are in the fray at Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.

In Madurantakam, a total of two lakh 12 thousand and 639 voters will exercise their franchise in 268 polling stations. In Dharapuram, two lakh 22 thousand 406 electors will exercise their franchise in 282 polling stations.
