In Tamil Nadu, six people were killed in a bus accident at Melur near Madurai today. The incident occurred on Kottambatti Road, where two buses collided head-on.
Seven passengers who suffered severe injuries and 15 passengers who sustained minor injuries were admitted to the hospital. An omni bus from Madurai and a Trichy-bound bus collided head-on at the four-way intersection in Melur near Madurai. Five passengers were killed on the spot, and one person died after being hospitalised. The police have ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved families and announced an ex gratia payment of 3 lakh rupees. He said that those who were severely injured would be given Rs. 1 lakh, while those who sustained minor injuries would receive 50 thousand rupees from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
