Tamil Nadu: MDMK ends nine-year alliance with DMK

In Tamil Nadu, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), led by Vaiko, has ended its nine-year alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

A resolution to withdraw from the alliance was passed at the party’s General Council meeting held in Chennai today under the leadership of MDMK General Secretary Vaiko.

The MDMK had joined the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance in 2017. The party justified its exit from the alliance, alleging attempts to weaken the MDMK.

The MDMK has two MLAs in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
