Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa was presented a cheque of 50 lakh rupees by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in Chennai for winning the Norway Chess title. Later, the 20-year-old Chess Prodigy met the media at the State Secretariat and said that the Tamil Nadu Government’s gesture in appreciating sportsmanship was tremendous. He expressed happiness that the Government is identifying and encouraging young talents. This is the first time that an Indian player has won the prestigious Norway Chess title.
