Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar today evicted DMK members from the Assembly. During the zero hour, the Speaker allowed DMK Whip E.V.Velu to raise the attention call notice. During his speech, Velu appealed to the Speaker to expunge certain remarks and allegations on the first family of the DMK  in the Chief Minister’s reply yesterday. 

 

He said that the related criticism was uncalled for, as those members were not present in the Assembly and also pertained to legal cases in Courts. State Electricity Minister C.T.R.Nirmal Kumar said that there was nothing wrong, as those were public documents and the Chief Minister had referred only to them. DMK members objected to the statement and created a ruckus.

 

The Speaker refused to expunge the remarks and said that he knew the content of the Speech and said that it was well within the limit of the rules of the  Assembly. He also said that the Chief Minister had quoted from earlier incidents which had already been spoken in the floor of the Assembly. 

 

The DMK members then trooped into the well of the House and the Speaker asked the DMK Whip E.V.Velu and K.N.Nehru, the Deputy Leader, to speak on the issue. 

 

The Speaker also said that he had no intention to expunge the remarks made by the Chief Minister yesterday. He said that the DMK members were not allowing the House to function in a normal manner. The Speaker urged the members to return to their seats and said that his decision to allow the whip and K.N.Nehru to speak on the issue. Since the protesting members did not return to their seats, the Speaker then ordered the Marshals to evict the members.
