Swachhata has evolved into sustained culture of good governance: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Science and Technology Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh today said that swachhata has evolved from an appeal for cleanliness into a sustained culture of good governance, efficient utilisation of public resources, reduction of pendency and responsible management of waste. He made these remarks while launching the Implementation Phase of Special Campaign 6.0 in New Delhi. Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Swachhata from the Red Fort in 2014, Dr Singh said that the initiative gradually transformed into a people’s movement and subsequently became an institutional practice across Government offices. He said that the campaign has acquired new dimensions, from toilets and cleanliness to disposal of old files, redundant furniture, e-files and electronic scrap. On this occasion, Dr Singh also participated in Shramdaan, a plantation under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative and honoured Safai Mitras by distributing safety kits.

The Minister also led a mass cleanliness drive at CSIR Headquarters, where he participated in the Swachhata Signature Campaign and plantation drive and felicitated Safai Mitras. The Minister later visited the Ministry of Earth Sciences, where e-waste and obsolete equipment from Prithvi Bhavan and Mausam Bhavan were taken up for disposal under the Campaign.

The Implementation Phase of Special Campaign 6.0 has started today and will run till 31st of October, following the preparatory phase undertaken by Ministries and Departments during September.
