The SURYAPATH TIRANGA Global Relay is being held today to mark India’s Independence Day in a unique and symbolic manner. The initiative sees the National Flag travel across the world, following the path of the rising sun.
The Ministry of Culture said that Indian missions including those in Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Egypt, Latvia and South Africa have united the diaspora for this celebration of nation’s pride and unity.
Under SURYAPATH TIRANGA, the flag is being hoisted in a coordinated sequence across different time zones. As dawn breaks in one part of the world, the National Flag is raised there, followed by the next Indian Mission or Post further west. This creates a continuous relay of the Tiranga across continents. The initiative is being undertaken as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 celebrations. It seeks to convey the message that the Tiranga transcends geographical boundaries and unites Indians and friends of India across the world. SURYAPATH TIRANGA transforms the movement of the sun across time zones into a symbolic journey of the National Flag, beginning with the first light in the East and carrying the message of Viksit Bharat, national pride and unity towards the West.
