The Supreme Court today asked petitioners, including doctors’ association, to file their responses to the Centre’s affidavit stating that shifting NEET UG from pen-and-paper to a computer-based format is under active consideration. A Bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe scheduled the next hearing for August 19.

 

The Centre told the court that it is considering conducting NEET (UG) in a computer-based format, either in a single stage or a two-stage model similar to Joint Entrance Examination (Mains and Advanced).

 

The government further said it has undertaken a comprehensive overhaul of the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) to eliminate paper leaks and systemic failures. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), represented by advocate Tanvi Dubey, urged the court that if the exam is to be shifted to a computer-based model, the decision should be taken soon so students have enough time to prepare according to the new format. The bench said that it would consider everything and asked the parties to file their replies and suggestions.
