At the Paris Paralympics 2024, India’s Sumit Antil defended his Javelin gold medal, creating a new record to clinch the top podium. Antil recorded a highest throw of 70.59 meter in his second attempt. India’s next Gold medal came from Badminton, where Nitesh Kumar won the Men’s Singles SL3 event. Suhas Yathiraj won a Silver in the men’s singles SL4 event, after he lost to the defending champion Lucas Mazur in the final. In Women’s singles-SU5, Shuttler Thulasimathi Murugesan claimed silver after losing to China’s Qiu Xia Yang in the final match. In the same category, Manisha Ramadass bagged Bronze. Nithya Sre Sivan secured a Bronze medal in the women’s singles SH6 category.
In Archery, Mixed Team Compound Event, Sheetal Devi, alongside Rakesh Kumar bagged a Bronze. Yogesh Kathuniya bagged India’s first medal of Day 5, clinching a Silver in the Men’s Discus Throw F56 Final. India’s medal count saw a major boost yesterday, jumping to 15th spot in the tally a total of as many medals. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have congratulated all the medal winners.
Today, on Day 6 of the games, Team India will eye medals in various events including Shooting, Archery and Athletics Shooters Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal will be in action in the Women’s 50 meter rifle 3 positions SH1 event, while archer Pooja will feature in the women’s recurve event. Bhagyashri Jadhav will go for a medal in the Women’s Shotput F34 final. Moreover, in the Men’s High Jump T63 final, Mariyappan Thangavelu, Shailesh Kumar and Sharad Kumar will try to further boost India’s medal tally.
