Strengthening PRIs with digital tools will improve grassroots governance:  Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh 

 
Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, Rajiv Ranjan Singh today said that Panchayati Raj Institutions are central to India’s democratic and developmental journey. He said this while launching the Atmanirbhar Panchayat Programme and the SAMARTH Panchayat Portal in New Delhi. Mr Singh said that these initiatives mark a significant step towards building financially empowered, technologically enabled and self-reliant Panchayats in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The Minister asserted that strengthening the Panchayati Raj Institutions with digital tools and sustainable revenue streams will improve grassroots governance and accelerate inclusive rural development. Mr Singh said that the Atmanirbhar Panchayat Programme will enable Panchayats to identify local assets and opportunities and convert them into sustainable revenue-generating projects. He added that, the SAMARTH Panchayat Portal will facilitate seamless and transparent taxation, payments and monitoring of Panchayat revenues. On the occasion, the Minister also released the Model Own Source of Revenue Rules for Panchayati Raj Institutions.
