State legislatures are the heartbeat of Indian democracy: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan has said that by exercising their right to vote, people reaffirm their faith in democracy. He called upon elected representatives to uphold this trust by serving with honesty, integrity, and dedication. Addressing the Conference of Present and Former Members of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly in Jaipur on the occassion of  75th anniversary of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Mr Radhakrishnan said that State Legislatures are the heartbeat of Indian democracy. While Parliament reflects the aspirations of the nation, State Legislative Assemblies give voice to the hopes, dreams, and concerns of villages, towns, and families. He said this constitutes the true spirit and dignity of legislative institutions.
The Vice President urged public representatives to remain humble while interacting with their constituents and to listen patiently to their concerns. He said constructive and policy-oriented suggestions, whether from members of the ruling party or the Opposition, should be duly considered, as they can bring about meaningful change. He added that the strength of democracy lies not in the grandeur of legislative buildings but in the quality of conduct, debate, and deliberations within them.  Earlier, the valedictory session was addressed by Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the inaugural session of the conference. Former and senior legislators were also felicitated on the occasion.
