Sri Lanka: Colombo’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre Hosts Gudi Padwa Celebrations

Colombo’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, in association with Maharashtra Mandali, hosted vibrant Gudi Padwa celebrations, marking the Marathi New Year.

The event featured a traditional pooja, symbolizing prosperity and new beginnings. Attendees also participated in Lezim, a lively folk dance performed with rhythmic instruments, adding to the festive spirit. Various rituals and cultural performances highlighted Maharashtra’s rich heritage.

Gudi Padwa, observed on the first day of Chaitra, is celebrated by hoisting a ‘Gudi’-a decorated flag symbolizing victory and good fortune. The celebrations brought together the Indian diaspora and local enthusiasts, fostering cultural exchange and unity.
