Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar today inaugurated Samajik Adhikarita Shivirs in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, he said that assessment and distribution camps are being organised for Divyangjans and senior citizens at 76 locations across 21 states.

These camps aim to provide artificial limbs, assistive devices and other facilities to improve mobility, daily living and social inclusion. He said that the spirit of social empowerment can truly be realised only when every individual is able to live with dignity, access to facilities and self-reliance. He stated that around 58 thousand pre-identified Divyangjan and Senior Citizens will benefit through the distribution of devices.

Emphasising the principles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas, he said that the nation is on a mission of Viksit Bharat and that the contributions of senior citizens and divyanjans are necessary to contribute to nation-building.

Organised under the initiative of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, the programme provided more than 2 thousand four hundred assistive devices to 463 beneficiaries from Delhi. Such service-oriented programmes serve as an effective medium for taking the sensitivity and welfare schemes of the government to the most vulnerable sections of society.
