Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik today highlighted the importance of small hydropower projects for providing a resilient power alternative to remote areas as well as ecological vulnerable places. The Minister today addressed a curtain raiser event in New Delhi which was a prelude to Bharat Renewable Summit and Expo scheduled to be held from 2nd to 5th November this year in New Delhi.
Mr. Naik said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi country’s clean energy journey has undergone remarkable transformation. The Minister said outlay of over two thousand 584 crore rupees has been projected for the proposed Small Hydro Power Development Scheme for the period 2026-27 to 2030-31, with an approximate target of 1500 mega watt. He said there is a need for a comprehensive reassessment of mapping of small hydro resources spread across country’s vast terrain using latest scientific methodologies and tools.
