Sikkim: Nepali poet Aadi Kavi Bhanubhakta Acharya birth anniversary 'Bhanu Jayanti' is being celebrated today

The 209th birth anniversary of renowned Nepali poet Aadi Kavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, known as Bhanu Jayanti, is being celebrated across Sikkim today. Governor of Sikkim Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister PS Tamang led Bhanu Jayanti celebrations at Bhanu Udyan, Gangtok today morning.
 
In his address, the Governor highlighted Bhanu Bhakta Acharya’s dedication to the Nepali language and emphasized that Bhanu Jayanti is not just a programme but a platform to showcase the diverse literary, artistic, and cultural aspects of society. He stressed on being rooted in one's heritage and taking pride in it. Mr. Acharya encouraged the youth to embrace technology alongside appreciating legacy.
 
Literary awards including the Bhasa Sewa Saman award are presented as part of the celebrations every year.
 
Bhanu Bhakta Acharya is remembered for his contribution to Nepali literature and played a pivotal role in bringing Nepali literary works to the forefront. Translation of the Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali is regarded as one of his key achievements.
