Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has accused the Congress of attempting to create anarchy in the country by generating controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He was speaking at a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Panaji.
Speaking about Goa, Mr Shekhawat said the Congress appeared to believe that names of people who are not Indian citizens should also be included in the electoral rolls. However, he said this was constitutionally unacceptable, as only eligible Indian citizens are entitled to be included in the voters’ list.
Mr Shekhawat said the SIR is a transparent process. He added that the people of India had democratically elected a government that works with a clear policy framework, sound decision-making and a long-term vision.
