Sensex Gains 315 Points, Nifty Rises 77 Points

Benchmark domestic equity indices ended on a positive note today. The Sensex rose 315 points to close at 73,896. The Nifty gained 77 points to settle at 23,141. The broader market at the National Stock Exchange displayed mixed trend. The Midcap 100 index dropped over 0.1 per cent, while the Smallcap 100 index rose more than 0.1 per cent.


In the forex market, the rupee appreciated by 14 paise to trade at 95 rupees and 82 paise against the US dollar.  

In the global crude oil market, Brent Crude was trading one per cent down at 105 US dollars and five cents per barrel, while WTI Crude was trading 1.7 per cent lower at 92 US dollars and 99 cents per barrel in intra-day trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, Gold for the October contract was trading 0.7 per cent up at 1,51,709 rupees per 10 grams, and Silver for the December contract was trading 1.3 per cent higher at 2,36,574 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.
