In Tamil Nadu, large-scale preparations are in place for celebrating Independence Day all over the State. Security has been tightened at all the important places like Bus terminals, airports, and railway Stations. Additional security has been deployed for frisking passengers and scanning baggage.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will hoist the National Flag and accept the guard of honour at the ramparts of Fort St. George, Chennai. Important places in Chennai like the Secretariat, Chennai Airport, Egmore and Central Railway Station, Ripon Buildings and District Collectorate buildings have all been lit up with colourful lights for the occasion. Full Dress rehearsals by the different units of the Tamil Nadu Police have been conducted today. Traffic has been diverted in sensitive zones and flying of drones has been prohibited in and around the Secretariat in view of the Independence Day celebrations.
