Search operations in landslide-hit Kerala’s Wayanad district continue on 5th day, Army to begin deep search under debris

The humanitarian assistance and disaster relief by the army is continuing in the landslide hit areas of Wayanad district, Kerala. Search operations continued for the 5th day on Saturday with more than 1,300 rescuers, and heavy machinery and sophisticated equipment. Rescue workers comprising the Army, NDRF and other agencies have fanned out in the affected area in their bid to look out for more bodies.
Two persons, stranded at Soochipara, were evacuated to Chooralmala by an IAF helicopter today.

Both, involved in the recovery of bodies at Soochipara waterfalls yesterday, had climbed a rock causing injuries to their lower limbs. They were unable to descend from the rock due to the injuries. They were lifted up onto the helicopter using a winch. They have been referred to the nearest medical centre for treatment.

Meanwhile, an AN 32 aircraft with radars will be reaching the Calicut airport in the evening from Hindan Airport at Ghaziabad in UP. The Kerala government had requested the radar equipment for deep search in the landslide hit Wayanad.
