The enrolment in schools has gone up to around 25 crore across the country, as per the Unified District Information System for Education Plus 2025-26 data. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the Net Enrolment Ratio has improved in 2025-26 as compared to 2024-25 across Foundational, Preparatory, Middle and Secondary stages of schooling. He said that the Gender Parity Index is 1.0 or more across all stages of school, showing active participation of girls. The Minister said that the availability of infrastructure facilities like girl’s, boy’s, and CWSN toilets, drinking water, electricity, ramps with handrails; and aspirational facilities like internet connection and computer availability have improved. Mr Pradhan said Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) schools are being set up as NEP 2020 exemplar schools. He said there are over 13,000 PM SHRI schools across the country.
