The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthis said that its forces had intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis. The coalition said the missiles were aimed at the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu. Coalition spokesman Turki Al-Maliki said in posts on X that further escalations and violations by the Houthi militia would be dealt with firmly.
Saudi Arabia also issued “potential danger” warnings in Makkah and Taif, followed by alerts in Jeddah, Tabuk and Yanbu. Residents were advised to remain indoors or seek shelter. Just a few minutes later, Saudi Civil Defence said the danger had passed in the affected areas.
In Yemen, the government forces reportedly repelled overnight Houthi attacks on the Hejat Al-Abd mountain pass, a key supply route to Aden. The route is also important for the movement of goods to Taiz and for residents seeking to travel abroad, as there are no commercial flights from Houthi-controlled areas.
The Houthis have continued to put pressure on government forces following their offensive along Yemen’s western coast, which has brought them closer to the Red Sea and the strategic Bab Al-Mandeb strait.
