The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam, regarded as the lifeline of Gujarat, reached its full reservoir level of 138.68 metres today. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel performed a puja and welcomed the Narmada waters at the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Ekta Nagar.
With a total storage capacity of 9,460 million cubic metres, this is the seventh time since the dam was dedicated to the nation in 2017 that it has reached its maximum reservoir level. During the current monsoon season, the dam has been supplying water to North Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch through the Sujalam Sufalam and SAUNI schemes, helping fill hundreds of lakes, check dams and reservoirs.
The Narmada water network currently supplies drinking water to around four crore people across more than 10,000 villages, 191 towns and seven municipal corporations.
Welcoming the inflow of Narmada waters, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the dam reaching its full level has brought immense joy and relief to people across the state. He, however, urged everyone to use water responsibly and make every drop count.
