Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today flagged in Samudra Pradakshina, the first-ever tri-service all-women circumnavigation sailing expedition, through video conferencing. Nine women officers of the three Services returned to Mumbai aboard the Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni after completing a 314-day voyage covering over twenty five thousand nautical miles across four oceans.
Speaking on the occasion, the Defence Minister described the completion of the expedition as a testament to India’s Nari Shakti, and a symbol of the nation’s resolve. Mr Singh added that the expedition is a proof of the effectiveness of the country’s Tri-Service synergy and jointness. He emphasized that Samudra Pradakshina will be remembered as a campaign where women officers from the three Services united by a single flag, conveyed a global message that India’s strength lies in its unity. He further said that IASV Triveni stands as a testament to country’s engineering excellence, and termed the vessel as an embodiment of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
