Global building materials major Saint-Gobain has said that India is becoming an increasingly important manufacturing and export hub for its operations. Speaking to Akashvani in Paris, Saint-Gobain Chairman and CEO Benoît Bazin said the company’s large manufacturing facility near Chennai will not only serve domestic demand but also export to Gulf countries, Southeast Asia and Australia.
Bazin said Saint-Gobain is bringing several low-carbon innovations to India. He noted that the company was the first in Asia to introduce low-carbon glass from its Chennai plant and has also adopted biomass-based energy solutions at its Andhra Pradesh facility. He added that energy-efficient building solutions can significantly reduce power consumption and carbon emissions. Highlighting the company’s sustainability efforts, Bazin said Saint-Gobain has already reduced its carbon emissions by 35 percent over the last six years and remains committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
