Sahitya Akademi Awards for the year 2023 conferred upon distinguished authors representing 24 languages of India

Sahitya Akademi Awards for the year 2023 were conferred upon distinguished authors representing 24 languages of India at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Tuesday. Each recipient was honored with a cash prize of one lakh rupees and a plaque for their exceptional contributions to Indian literature.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Pratibha Rai, an eminent Odia writer hailed the diverse writers and their literary prowess. She emphasized the unifying power of language and expressed concern over the gradual erosion of mother tongues. Ms. Rai commended the Sahitya Akademi for its efforts in preserving India’s rich literary heritage.

President of Sahitya Akademi, Madhav Kaushik highlighted the organization’s role in facilitating access to the diverse tapestry of Indian languages. He credited the writers for their invaluable contribution in preserving the essence of humanity and shaping society. Mr. Kaushik also applauded the Sahitya Akademi for its endeavors in leveraging new technologies to promote Indian literature on a global scale.

Among the notable awardees were Sapan Chakroborty for Bengali literature, Nandeshwar Demary for Bodo literature, Vijay Verma for Dogri literature, and Neelam for English literature.
