Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M Scindia today launched the revamped Dak Sewa App and Dak MITRA App at a function in New Delhi. Mr Scindia also inaugurated the renovated Buildings of 14 Post Offices located in ten States. The initiatives mark another step towards a more modern, accessible and citizen-centric era of India Post.
The Dak Sewa App will make the services of Department of Posts simpler and more accebile to the citizens of the country, while the Dak MITRA App aims to make Gramin Dak Sewaks digitally empowered to perform their works in a simpler and faster way.
Speaking on the revenue of India Post, Mr Scidnia highlighted that it has recorded over four thousand crore rupees revenue during the first Quarter of financial year 2026-27, registering 22 percent year-on-year growth over the corresponding quarter of 2025-26. He said, the milestone reflects the Department’s sustained efforts towards modernization, business transformation and customer-centric service delivery under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a digitally empowered and future-ready postal network. Mr Scindia said that there are 40 crore Post Office Savings Accounts in the country with deposits worth of 24 lakh crore rupees. He also informed that around four crore Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts operations are having deposits of 2.5 lakh crore rupees. On the occasion, Minister of State for Communicatiosn Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani also highlighted the benefit of the applications.
The upgraded Dak MITRA (Mobile Interface for Transactions and Rural Assistance) application serves as a unified operational platform for more than 1.4 lakh Branch Post Offices. Deployed on Android-based handheld devices, it enables Branch Postmasters to undertake paperless and real-time postal and financial transactions, including mail booking, OTP-based doorstep delivery, Core Banking Services, insurance services, Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC,among others.
The Dak Sewa App provides citizens with 24×7 access to postal services, including tracking, booking, complaints, Post Office and PIN code locators, and financial calculators, with support for 23 Indian languages through BHASHINI.
