In Assam, the flood situation remains critical with 16 districts affected by the deluge. 21 more people have been reported to have lost their lives in the flood across the state, taking the toll to 31 till now.
According to official reports, 872 villages remain inundated, affecting more than 5 lakh 64 thousand people across the state. Over 24 thousand hectares of crop area are submerged under floodwaters. Urban flooding has also impacted Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, where more than 4,000 people have been affected.
Relief and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas. The state government has opened 71 relief camps and 202 relief distribution centres, providing shelter to over 12,000 people and assistance to more than one lakh flood-affected residents. Teams of the SDRF, NDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, along with the local administration, are carrying out rescue and evacuation operations round the clock.
