Regional Meteorological Centre strengthens weather forecasting  for J&K, Ladakh, and HP

In a major milestone in strengthening weather services and disaster resilience in the Himalayan region, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh today inaugurated the newly established Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Jammu at the Convention Centre, Jammu. On the occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the new RMC would significantly strengthen weather forecasting services for Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. He highlighted that the Centre is equipped with advanced technology aimed at improving weather prediction, climate monitoring, and disaster preparedness across the region. The Minister stated that accurate and timely weather forecasts would benefit sectors such as agriculture, aviation, tourism, and disaster management. He added that the facility would play a crucial role in issuing early warnings for extreme weather events, including flash floods, landslides, and cloudbursts. This Centre is part of the Government of India’s efforts to modernize meteorological infrastructure and enhance public safety through improved forecasting capabilities. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Jammu-Reasi Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma, J&K Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma, MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta, senior officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and other dignitaries.
